Gift-giving is something I love and enjoy! But sometimes even the best gift-givers need a little help finding the right gift for a client, a wedding, a friend or everyday occasions and that’s where melt down co comes in. For this month’s business shout out, I sat down with Carrie and Patti to learn more about their business and the art of gifting.
What’s your business and the story behind it?
melt down co is a creative gifting studio specializing in professional and personal gifts that are thoughtfully designed. We provide custom solutions for client appreciation, corporate events, weddings, social occasions, and everyday celebrations. Additionally, we offer ready-to-ship collections for easy and thoughtful gifting for multiple occasions.
What’s your favorite product you sell/make/offer and why?
The running joke is that we fall in love over and over throughout the process. We oftentimes have a “new favorite” when we incorporate new products into a design. It’s constantly evolving and that’s one of the things we love the most!
What is your advice for moms who want to start a business of their own?
Go for it! Finding balance is always tricky. Let’s face it – there’s very little downtime at this stage of life so waiting for the perfect time could mean forever. If you have an idea or passion, we say – figure out a way to fit it into your current situation. Incorporating things into your every day that you love will bring you so much joy.
What are 2 of your go-to small local businesses and what do you love about them?
Our all-time fav is Taco Diablo – we do some our of best thinking there! From brainstorming to celebrating, an OG margarita always seems to do the trick! We also love lots of fellow local makers such as Paperwhite Florals, b salvaged vintage signs and Bees Knees Paper Goods. We do several pop-up markets together throughout the year and having great friends in similar small business situations is always helpful and makes things a lot more fun.
What are some tips that help you (try to) achieve work-life balance?
This is where the partnership really comes in handy. We both have multiple kids and juggle a lot on the daily. Having each other to lean on allows for us somehow to get most things accomplished. It may not always be as quick as we would like, but knowing someone always has your back is great.
What’s a typical day like for you?
Every day is definitely different and we try and plan out our week on Sundays or Mondays. Having a game plan is always helpful. We also live across the street from one another so it’s convenient to run back and forth and address anything that comes up that needs our attention.
What are 2 things you could not survive without?
Our families and a great Paloma!
